Aurora 'Corsair' American Privateer, 1/128, 433-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Second issue with oval logo. Privateers were actually civilian ships manned by private citizens. The early US Government gave the ships 'letters of marque' and they were free to raid English shipping interests with the blessing of the US Government. Approximately 500 were in service until the practice was abolished. Although they were technically successful in raiding British shipping, the British soon blockaded the US ports and almost shut down the import/export trade. Well detailed kit of a very beautiful vessel. Full hull model includes detailed deck fittings, separately molded cannon, metal chain, black standing and tan running rigging material, rigging instructions and diagrams, display stand, flag sheet, premolded rat lines and billowing vacuform sails. Molded in wood tan and black. Never started and complete with all parts, flags, chain, rigging and instructions.

Shortly after this she was lost off Brazil to a spontaneous combustion of her coal cargo. The crew successfully abandoned ship. The captain was the last to leave. Pyro Mississippi River Boat Packet Natchez, 1/160, 263-995

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: See Description

Sold

NOTE: the box top is a reproduction made on a color copier. The box bottom is original. The kit measures over 21 inches long when assembled. Very well detailed kit of the famous rival of the Robert E Lee. Molded in high-gloss tan, burgundy, green and gray plastic. All details of the real ship, including the wooden railings and carvings are duplicated. Includes full rigging instructions and thread. Please note - sometimes the Natchez was or was not issued with the paddle wheel covers decals - this issue does have them. The kit is complete with all parts, decals, flags and instructions. NOTE: instructions have significant bug damage. They can be read, but I have enclosed the Life-Like instructions as a back up. The decals have 10% bug damage and the flags are intact but stained. Two pieces of #20 have the window frames and doors neatly painted, and the two small steam stacks have been assembled and painted. Quality of assembly and paint is very good. Two parts #20 and three #86 cargo posts are a different color plastic- they are from a later issue of this kit. The race between the Robert E Lee and the Natchez is considered a classic tale of The River. Although the Lee won, the circumstances were suspect and many people still considered the Natchez the fastest paddle-wheel packet ever.
