Air Lines Bristol 138/A, 1/72, 9802

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Very nicely done kit in the Frog tradition. On the 28th of September, 1936, the Bristol 138/A climbed to an altitude of 49,967 feet to establish a new world altitude record. In 1937 it climbed to 53,967 feet where the windscreen cracked. The pilot was saved by the pressure suit he was wearing. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Box art is by the famous Jo Kotula who did 1930s covers for the magazine 'Model Airplane News' and later the Aurora box art of the late 1950s. Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. There are one or two trading cards on each box which show the boxart but not the advertising/logo. Some kits contain a Testors color painting guide also, but it is not specific to any model.

Scale Flight Megow's Monocoupe 90A - 12 inch Wingspan Dime Scale Flying Airplane, Dime

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Scale Flight Model Company in Bloomington, Indiana, USA was dedicated to releasing authentic reproductions of the finest "Dime Scale" flying model (stick and tissue) kits from the 1930s/40s. Dime Scale models used to sell for a dime in the 1930's, hence the name. They are actually box scale, but as a general guideline, they usually had a wingspan of 16 inches and have simple and light construction. "Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Athearn 40' Steel Box Car - Illinois Central 'Main Line Of America' - HO Craftsman Kit with Sprung Metal Trucks, 1/87, A117

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Very high quality wood and metal kit from the Golden Age of HO Craftsman kit. Builds a very accurate and highly detailed prototype. Of the early metal box car kits, these are my favorites, with their popularity witnessed by the various reissues through the years. Almost all the parts that are metal on the actual box car are metal on the model. This and the factory paint, lettering and decoration makes these kits difficult to beat for scale appearance. Features stamped steel body, car ends and roof that are factory painted, lettered and decorated, steel ladders, doors, door guides and brake platform, cast metal running boards, bolsters, coupler pockets and three piece brake detail, stamped metal undercarriage beam with fine cross bearers, corner steps, grab irons and more. Includes trucks. The factory paint is excellent, and I have packed it so it will not be damaged in shipment. Due to the high degree of factory finishing, the only painting required for this kit is the interior floor and underside. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in factory sealed envelopes and all other parts have been inventoried complete including instructions. Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Includes real sprung metal trucks. Roundhouse (by Model Die Casting) was a famous manufacture of HO Craftsman kits in the 1940s/1950s. This is one of their all- metal car kits. Very well detailed and crisply cast with little or no flash. Molded in details are superb. Features all metal one piece roof, three piece roof walk, car ends, floor and undercarriage, factory painted and lettered sides for Jersey Central (green and gold), three piece brake set, couplers, pocket doors, bushings, screws as needed, grab irons, full instructions with drawings and more. The prepainted sides are very good, but the gold has some fading (possibly a factory flaw). (See Photo, left) The roof, floor, ends, doors and car sides are very flat and straight for easy assembly. The kit has never been started. Most small parts are still sealed in the factory envelopes. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including instructions.

Hawk Supermarine Swift Ground Attack Fighter, 1/72, 607-60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+++

Sold

Very cleanly molded kit that builds very nicely. The model has excellent fit and recessed and raised panel lines. Can be assembled with or without landing gear. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The Swift was a very early jet fighter to replace the Supermarine Attacker. A very capable aircraft, the Swift suffered numerous accidents early on. As a result, less than 200 were ever built and it did not see combat. It did hold a world speed record for a short time, only to have a Douglas Skyray take the record a few hours later. The problems were ironed out, but by then the Hawker Hunter was proving very capable and there was no need for the Swift and it's RAF service life was short. The most successful version was the PR variant.
