Aurora Regulus II Guided Missile with Launcher, 1/48, 378-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

1958 release of this kit featuring classic Jo Kotula boxart. The large 1/48 scale missile comes with a fully operational scale launcher. The hardbox is 'very good++' with great color and gloss, four solid corners, no price tag or tape tears, no torn or missing litho and no creases. Flaws include edge and corner wear as shown and light general wear. The kit has never been started and is factory new inside right down to the original tissue packing paper. Aurora factory sealed the silver parts and the red missile parts; these are both still sealed. The deep blue parts were not sealed but have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts. Includes decals and instructions in 'excellent' condition. This kit must be shipped insured. The Aurora "Missile Line" is legendary. In the late 1950s, the first missile model kits sold briskly, so Aurora and Revell both planned extensive lines. However, the missile modeling craze disappeared as quickly as it started. Models that were in the works were canceled or completed if they were far enough along. Those that were completed were fine efforts but sold poorly and had very short lives, making them rare collector items today.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

SALE!! First release dated 1957 with the yellow panels on the short box sides and no Parents' Magazine Seal. This is just one of the many incredibly successful 1/48 scale WWI aircraft kits from Aurora. A few years after settling into the new plant at West Hempstead, one of the the major projects was to launch this line in 1956. New subjects were added as late as the early 1960s. The line was so successful that many were selling right up until the end of Aurora in 1976. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions.

Aurora Sopwith Camel, 1/48, 102-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal and box have wear as shown. This is the 4th known issue of this classic kit, and the second one to share the 102-100 kit number. The blue oval logo dates from the early 1960s. This is only the second box artwork used for this kit, and John Steel replaced Cox for the 'new look' from Aurora. This is part of the famous Aurora WWI series of 1/48 scale aircraft. The series began in 1956 and Aurora added new kits into the early 1960s. The line proved incredibly popular, so these kits were included in the 'mold upgrade' in the 1970s before Aurora went out of business.

Monogram B-26 Invader - Four Star Issue / True Second Issue, 1/67, P6-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

True second issue from 1955. Rare. Few people (including me) knew that there was a second release of P6-98 that varied significantly from the first issue. The true first issue has a part number of 'P6-98', early '4 star' rectangle logo, black rubber main gear tires and no support peg to keep it from being a 'tail sitter' when assembled. The second issue (this kit) has the same part number, logo but has regular injection molded (silver) tires and a peg to keep the nose gear grounded. The instructions show these changes and confirm that this model is still numbered kit P6 (as do the decals also). Molded in correct gloss silver and clear plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. (In the past it was believed that the second issue was 'PA6-98' with a modified box top logo. This is now known to be the third issue.)

Excellent limited edition kit. Features main airframe parts in professional grade castings, good interior detail, printed instruments, painting guide and full decals. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. From thisdayinaviation.com: Two R2C-1 Racers was built for the U.S. Navy by the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company of Hammondsport, New York, and were assigned serial numbers A6691 and A6692. They were single-place, single-engine biplanes with a wooden monocoque fuselage and fabric-covered wings. Curtiss had made every effort to reduce aerodynamic drag, including the use of surface radiators on the wings to cool the engine. The airplane was 19 feet, 3 inches (5.867 meters) long with a wingspan of 22 feet (6.706 meters). The biplane had an empty weight of 1,692 pounds (767 kilograms) and gross weight of 2,112.3 pounds (958.1 kilograms). The R2C-1 Racers were powered by a revolutionary 1,209.610-cubic-inch-displacement (19.813 liter) water-cooled, normally-aspirated Curtiss D-12A dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) 60° V-12 engine with four valves per cylinder. The cylinders and water jackets were cast as a monoblock and a drop-forged crankshaft with seven main bearings was used. A Stromberg NA-75 carburetor supplied the air/fuel mixture. The engine turned a two-bladed forged aluminum propeller designed by Sylvanus A. Reed. This fixed-pitch propeller had very thin blades which allowed it to turn at high speed without adverse sonic effects. The D-12A drove this propeller without gear reduction (direct drive, hence the “D” in the engine’s designation). The D-12A was specifically modified as a racing engine and did not have a power rating for normal service, however, it nominally produced 507 horsepower, with a 520 horsepower maximum. It was capable of operating at 2,500 r.p.m. The Curtiss D-12 was 56¾ inches (1.441 meters) long, 28¼ inches (0.718 meters) wide and 34¾ inches (0.882 meters) high. It weighed 678.25 pounds (307.65 kilograms).
