Guillows Mitsubishi Zero - 27 inch Wingspan for Free Flight or R/C Conversion, 1/16, 404

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

$54

Still factory sealed and in investment-grade condition. Purchased new on July 21, 1967 in Northern Ohio. Large scale well detailed model that can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern small and light servos and receivers. Features quality die cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, scale wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose/cowl and engine, full color decals, colored tissue, rubber motor, plywood firewall and excellent full size plans. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

The kit has never been started and is as it left the factory - I was the first one to go through it. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and plans. The plans are 'excellent' with some yellowing on the exposed panels and only several spots of very light and small bug damage. Sterling British SE-5 Scout - 40 inch Wingspan Scale RC Airplane, FS22

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$159

Very large full-scale kit. Even the rib spacing in the wings and tail is correct, as is the stringer spacing of the fuselage. The only exception to scale is the modern airfoil cross section. Designed for R/C or control line with a .19 to .29 gas engine and measures 30.5 inches long with a 40 3/8 inch wingspan. Highly detailed. Features all die-cut sheet wood parts of very high quality balsa, numerous plastic details and metal radiator parts, wood and metal stock as needed, dowels, blocks and cut to shape wood, a great deal of hardware, three huge full color decal sheets and superb full size plans with instructions on them. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I personally considered Sterlings to be 'deluxe' kits.

The Horsa MkI carrier troops while the MkII carried vehicles which loaded through the swing nose and unloaded from an explosively-released rear fuselage after landing. Gliders carried in 20% of the reinforcements and supplies for D-Day, and most were Horsas. They also saw action against the German Heavy Water (Atomic Bomb) plants in Norway and targets in Sicily, Arnhem and the Rhine.
