North American F-86 Sabre Jet
Good++   Injection Molded   old

Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufactures.
1/48  #507  O-Lin
Ryan Navion / North American Aviation NA-143
VG+++   Injection Molded   old
$165

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. This is a very hard to fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-line cement on the top. Production first began in 1949 or just before. O-Lin (Olin) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. Inside, the kit is as new. It is molded in high gloss ivory. I have seen many cases where Paul Lindberg used up the old O-Lin stock, combining different sets of instructions and decals resulting in odd combinations. While I admire his efficiency, it makes does make collecting these unique. This model has the O-Lin box, O-Lin instructions, O-Lin parts and the earliest 'Lindberg Products' decals dated 11/1952 on the back. The kit has never been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, instructions and decals. The Navion was originally produced by North American Aviation as a high performance sport plane, but they sold them to the US Air Force as well. North American sold the rights to Ryan, who continued to successfully produce the aircraft.

  Berkeley
Buccaneer 'B' Special Gas Free flight Flying Model Airplane Kit
Exc++   Wood   old
$190

Early free flight gas model design. Wingspan measures 56 inches. Early gas flight was a true art form - the demands on the aircraft design were unique. First, the aircraft had to take off under power, climb rapidly and stay in the contest area. Secondly, when the motor shut down, the model had to glide like a glider and hopefully still stay in the contest area. These contradictions in aircraft performance lead to some amazing designs. One persistent issue was spins - this Buccaneer 'B' Special features slotted leading edges to prevent 'whip stalls', which was a very common problem at the time. It also has a tail design that "...arrests spins". Model features ready made landing gear, complete full size plans, plywood firewall, semi-finished wood blocks, rubber wheels, plastic windshield, silkspan covering and printed wooden parts. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Makes and idea conversion to electric and RC - these are light aircraft, so you simply climb to altitude, shut down the motor and glide. Berkeley is a very famous manufacture of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Little Air Force Assortment Gift Set Speedee-Bilt F-84/F-51 and Superkit F-51 (P-51)/F-84
Exc    Wood   old
$1100

Very rare 1950s "pre-injection molded" gift set. Long before injection molded kit were made in the USA, Monogram produced perhaps the finest pre-fabricated wooden kits with plastic details. The Speedee-Bilt series were flying models with pre-painted and cut wooden parts with plastic props, cowls, pilots, etc. The Superkits were smaller static models with precarved wooden parts and many plastic details. The kits themselves are rare today, but the gift set is very rare. Monogram issued very few gift sets for injection kits, and even fewer in the early 1950s for the wooden kits. The gift set consists of a special 'Christmas' box with a tray and lift-off top with a cello window. This one contains 2 Superkits (F-84 Thunderjet and F-51 Mustang) and 2 Speedee-Bilts (also the F-84 and F-51). The outer box is intact with the original cello and is in Excellent condition with edge wear as the primary flaw. The four kits are in mint boxes and have never started. Each is 100% inventoried complete with all parts/decals and instructions present.
