NOTE: the box is complete and intact, but one side of the box is 'good' (the side shown) but the other side is stained and discolored ('poor'). Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the 'Dime Scale' kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Zvezda Russian Battleship Borodino, 1/350, 9027

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$36

From modern molds. Full hull model is very nicely molded and detailed with 356 parts. Never started and has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Borodino was the lead ship of a class of pre-dreadnought battleships built for the Imperial Russian Navy. She was finished after the start of the Russo-Japanese war in 1904. After completion she was sent with a squadron from Libau to break the Japanese blockade of Port Arthur, but while in transit the Japanese occupied the port. The Second Pacific Squadron sailed instead to Vladivostok, the last Russian port in the far east. After a very long voyage and numerous delays, the Japanese certainly knew they were coming and set up for battle to cut the Russians off at Tsushima Strait. Borodino saw action at Tsushima early on. After taking serious damage, the Russians were not interested in further battle and around 1700 they turned away from Japanese cruisers- but ran into the Japanese battleships again. 10 minutes later Togo ordered his ship to cease fire and disengage; the battleship Fuji had already loaded her 12" guns and fired them before the turn away. One of these shells hit Borodino under her starboard 6 inch turret, which started a fire in the ready ammunition that quickly spread to a 6" magazine. This caused a chain reaction and massive magazine explosions. Only one man survived from a crew of 855.

Aurora Lockheed F-90 Fighter, 1/48, 33-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$155

Rare 1/48 scale kit. Hardbox is dated 1958, but the logo tells us that this is a very late 1950 to early 1960s issue since there is no 'Famous Fighters' in the oval logo. The factory put a tiny '100' circle sticker over the '98' in the part number. This issue has the correct triangle two-piece clear base as well as full landing gear and rockets. Molded in silver and clear. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Decals and instructions are both 'excellent' with slight yellowing as the only real flaws. This is reissue of one of Aurora's first two kits (F-90 and F9F) which were copies of the Hawk molds.
