Aurora British SE-5 Scout, 1/48, 103-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$55

Very rare version. Of all the Aurora SE-5, this one turns up the least. The hardbox is dated 1956 but shows the original Jim Cox box art with the 1957 oval 'Famous Fighters' logo. The original rectangle 'Northern Lights' logo has been neatly blotted out with a yellow rectangle of the same size. The fact that the price is still 69 cents (as the original issue) means this issue is very early 1957 and predated the 'yellow' box art issue. Molded in gloss olive green and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

The three B-17s are molded in the correct dark green and clear, while the 'bomb' stand arms are clear and the base is black. The kit has never been started. All three B-17s are still in the factory sealed bags. Includes special stand, stand arms, two unique decal sheets and instructions. NOTE: missing box-art poster. "Damage" decal sheet is missing 5 (of 46) 'bullet hole' small decals missing (see photo). Must be shipped insured.

Guillows De Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk -17 inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft, 50-2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$32

Rare early issue dated 1954. Please note the old 'Guillow's' logo. Rubber-powered flying model that features die cut balsa parts, bright red vacuform nose, fully finished wood wheels, bright yellow plastic propeller, wire prop shaft, vacuform canopy (that is still perfectly clear and not yellowed), covering tissue (badly wrinkled up), insignia and full size plans with very detailed building instructions. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Features die cut balsa and plywood parts, shaped trailing edges, plenty of stock for spars, etc., fully finished main and tail wheels, clear vacuform canopy (that is still perfectly clear, not yellow), fully formed wire landing gear struts, covering material, color decals and full size plans. This is a sheeted design with the exception of the wings behind the sheeted leading edge. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Sterling SE-5 Scout with 'Auto-Magic' Pilot - 20 inch Wingspan For Control Line or Free Flight, M-5

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$36

Mid 1960s stick-and-tissue flying model with special 'Auto Magic Pilot' feature and 20 inch wingspan. Can be built for scale static display, rubber free-flight or gas powered control line or Auto Magic Pilot, where the aircraft flies by itself on a tether and maintains level flight. Features full size plans, many die-cut balsa wood parts, main spars, stringers, plastic nose radiator and exhaust manifolds, covering tissue, completely formed and painted wooden wheels, die-cut plywood parts, clear material for windscreen and steel pre-shaped landing gear struts. Full size plans are included that also include highly detailed text instructions. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing decals and two sheets of parts have been very neatly adult punched out. Inventoried with all wood, metal and plastic parts present including plans/instructions. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and were much nicer than most other kits of this type.

Entex Grumman F-14A Tomcat, 1/100, 8521T

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$15

From the 1970s and probably from Tamiya molds. Very nicely molded with all recessed panel line detail, working swing wings, optional position landing gear, four AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, a display stand and decals for VF-124 and what appears to be prototype #5 (but I am not sure). The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: decals were partially stuck to the instructions. Not because of water damage, just age. They may still be good because the instructions came off on the decals, not the other way around.
