Lindberg Monitor and Merrimac Civil War Ironclads - (ex-Pyro), 718

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

$65

1986 issue from quality original Pyro molds. These are considered more accurate than the Lindberg models of the same subject. Both models have never been started. The parts are still in the the two internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. These two American Civil War ships spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Renwal Bleriot 1909 Monoplane and Kitty Hawk 1903 Biplane, 1/72, 234-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$44

Hard to fine early 1960s hardbox issue. Kit includes both models. The Wright Brothers Kitty Hawk was the first aircraft to make powered and controlled flight, and the Bleriot Monoplane was the first aircraft to fly over the English Channel. These are unique and accurate kits. The original internal frame structure and details of the aircraft is built from injection molded plastic. When complete, it is covered with a very strong fabric which is included. The result is a very realistic aircraft. The Kitty Hawk has never been started and is still sealed in the original factory bag. The Bleriot has minor assembly; the two fuselage halves are neatly built to 'professional' quality. One wing and the stabilizer have been covered with Aeroskin to 'professional' standards. There is no other assembly and the kit is complete. Includes covering tissue, instructions and Testors's covering glue glass bottle.

Comet F4U Corsair, B3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$16

Rare solid wood model from the 1940s. The scale is not given, but the wingspan is 5.25 inches. Features fuselage block, two sheets of high quality printwood and full-size plans with templates. Never started and complete. Please NOTE: there are paint stains on the box and also on the plans. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Pyro Merrimac Confederate Ram Ironclad, C259-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$58

Rare early issue of the Merrimac alone. Usually this kit is only seen in the release that contains it and the Monitor. Great hardbox artwork by AJ Rudisill from the late 50s. The Merrimac was one of two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. The Merrimac is 11 inches long when built, is a full hull model and includes a display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. NOTE: the instructions have a closed tear and some stains from old tape (which has fallen off). Although dated, the Pyro Merrimac and Monitor kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg models of the same ships.
