Miniature Masterpieces Roman Racing Chariot, 1/48, K504-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$55

This kit was found in the stock room of a long-closed hobby shop and is in factory-new condition. Rare early 1950s original issue. Molded in white. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the chariot, it includes a driver, Gladiator, four horses, a display stand and decals. The model includes detailed instructions (rare for the early 1950s) and a wonderful (and long) history of this particular chariot. Never started. The parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and includes decals and mint instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare.

Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in SouthBend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historichorse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.

Revell BB-38 USS Pennsylvania - Battleship Sea Power Issue, 1/426, H422-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$85

Hardbox is dated 1961. Rare kit of the Arizona's sister ship. Very nicely molded and detailed full hull kit. It can be superbly super-detailed with the Gold Medal Model PE detail set. The kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all parts including decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the instructions have light bug damage and the decals have bug damage to the backing paper, but the the actual transfers have no damage. Also, part #19 had a chip out of it, so I included another #19 in mint condition from a later issue. The Pennsylvania was in dry-dock during the December 7th Pearl Harbor attack and survived with minimal damage. She was rebuilt and saw significant action in the Pacific in WWII, steaming over 150,000 miles from 1941 to 1945. It is thought that she may have fired more ammunition than any ship in history. She never once reported 'Not Ready' for any operation or need. After being used as a nuclear test ship at Bikini, she was towed to Kwajalein and sunk.

Revell SMS Dresden Light Cruiser - WWI German East Asiatic Squadron / Coronel / Falklands, 1/350, 05001

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$85

Very well detailed and molded full-hull kit. Never started. Factory sealed internal bag with instructions, decals and flag sheet present. The story of Dresden's short career in WWI is fascinating. She was serving with the German East Asiatic Squadron; near the start of hostilities they made a voyage across the Pacific Ocean hoping to go around South America and return to Germany via the Atlantic. The squadron came across Sir Christopher Cradocks British Squadron in the South Pacific at Coronel. There the Germans won a great victory over Cradock; the problem was that now the Germans were sited and their intentions known. The British positioned battlecruisers at the Falkland islands in anticipation; they did not have long to wait. When the Germans were sighted, the British casually got ready then sailed, knowing their superior speed and gun range could make short work of the biggest ships the Germans had. The British were correct; the Germans were soundly defeated off the Falklands. However, the Dresden was the only German ship to survive. She went back around Cape Horn in the Pacific and successfully hid for several months, only to be eventually found near Mas a Tierra (Chile) by Glasgow and Kent. Knowing that escape was impossible, the Dresden was scuttled by her crew. The wreak still lies in the harbor today.

After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufactures.
