Guillows SE-5A Scout - 24 inch Wingspan for Free Flight or R/C Conversion, 202
Exc   Wood   old
$65

Large scale well detailed kit. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using today's small and light servos and receivers. Well detailed with scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose/cowl and engine, full color decals, colored tissue, die cut balsa parts, rubber motor, plywood firewall and excellent full size plans. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufactures, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

This kit is still in the heat sealed old plastic bag, which has preserved the delicate box very nicely. Classic Cold War kit in large 1/40 scale. I believe this is a 'Yunyj Tyechinik' release and not the earlier MZMPI. This company succeeded MZMPI (which was the first kit manufacture in the USSR) and continued till a new name was introduced in the mid 1970s.

Megow 1941 Megow Catalog Number 11 1941 - 128 Pages
Megow 1941 Megow Catalog Number 11 1941 - 128 Pages
Good+   Paper_Cardstock   old
$35

Rare. 1941 Megow catalog originally from Potter's Hardware in Thomaston, Conn. Very thick 128 page catalog from the 'Golden Age' of model building includes the full Megow gas, rubber and static scale aircraft line, a special about a Model Airplane show featuring Megow personnel on television station W3XE (perhaps the very first modeling show in TV), an article on the 'Story Behind Megow Balsa Wood', model aircraft dope with a Megow Store Display, Megow's Quick Dry Cement, die-cast parts and fittings for super-detailing static solid models, pages supplies for flying models, the Strombecker wooden kits line (distributed by Megow), American Junior (A-J) Line, Fireball U-Control, Gas Powered Models, gas motors, timers, knives, props, gas flying accessories, gas car models, Megow's extensive line of ship models and fittings, Megow's historical and large line of O and HO Gauge kits and accessories, and advertising showing the famous Megow 'Green Cabinet' and door decal for hobby dealers to display. The catalog is complete and has not been written in. There is general wear on the cover and some clear tape. Page one has a tear but no material is missing. The other pages are free of tears. Fred Megow was a famous pioneer in the model aircraft field from the late 1920s till 1949. His product lines of semi-prefabricated, solid and stick and tissue kits won him national and extensive world wide distribution - possibly the first modern model manufacture to achieve this. His fascinating story involves trying novel and untested marketing ideas in the Great Depression, followed my explosive world-wide growth. Mr. Megow was a true pioneer in the early days of modeling and a leader in the low price field so that every boy could afford a kit during those difficult times. Megow also produced scale operating train and trackside kits, ship models (large and small) and automotive subjects. Megow's catalogs claim that they were pioneers in HO scale, and there is documentation to support this fact. Megow's early HO train kits served not only to promote this now-popular scale nationally, but were among the very first train kits.
