Cleveland Republic P-47 Thunderbolt - 30.75 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Aircraft, 1/16, SF-81

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$115

Rare. This is the 1942 Deluxe 'large box' issue of this incredibly well detailed flying model. Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' modeles in museum scale of 1/16 were very complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood, factory cut stringers and spars, other wood stock as required, fully formed main and tail wheels & thrust button, balsa blocks and sheeting wood, metal stock, covering material and superb CD plans with instructions. The kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and paperwork present. This is a wartime issue and so as usual there are no fluids (glue or dope). Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Rare 1948 flying model by the world-famous Cleveland Model Company. This kit is the first in a series which greatly reduced building time. Called the E-Z line, it is designed for rubber powered or small gas engine free-flight & features fully die-cut airframe pieces made from fine, light-weight balsa, all other parts as required and the superb Cleveland plans with instructions. Before this, die-cut parts were expensive to produce and therefore rare; all but the most expensive of the kits required you to hand-cut every part out of the sheetwood which was not only tedious and very time consuming but always resulted in broken parts. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Hawk Messerschmitt Bf-109F - Solid Wood Aircraft Model, 1/48, 79

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Rare model from 1943 for the advanced collector. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48. This model features 3D (three-axis) cut fuselage, profile (2D) cut wings and tail feathers, plastic three blade propeller with the correct large spinner, fully finished wooden wheels, sandpaper, complete water-slide decal sheet, and an amazing full-color 3 view plan with templates, exploded drawing, scale, airfoil sections and more. These plans are in 'Excellent++' condition. There is also a large fold out of text and step-by-step illustrated instructions. Even includes the original factory packing tissue paper. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and paperwork present.

Revell SMS Seeadler With 'S' Glue - German WWI Commerce Raider - (Sea Eagle), 1/232, H382-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$225

Rare 1960 hardbox first issue and ever rarer in this condition. The 'Excellent++' condition box features great framable John Steel artwork. Inside, it even contains a factory-wrapped very colorful metal tube of 'S' glue as well as a history of the Seeadler, a message from Count Luckner, a map of the journey and locations & names of all the ships sunk by the raider. This is a kit of a fantastic subject, the famous WWI sailing commerce raider of Count Felix Von Luckner. It is a very well detailed model for that time and has a full hull, display stand, detailed deck houses and deck fittings, davits and ship's boats, guns, fife rails, preformed rat lines, rigging material, rigging instructions and much more. Molded in gray, brown & black plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and includes the flag sheet and instructions. The SMS Seeadler was a unique WWI raider in that it was not designed to elude the British blockade and break out to sea...it was designed to pass right through the blockade within full view of the British before attacking allied shipping around the world. No detail was overlooked in the Seeadler's preparation, right down to a Norwegian-speaking crew. The plan went perfectly - and the Seeadler passed inspection at the British Blockade. Her non-threatening appearance helped her in an active and colorful raiding career that nearly went around the world. I highly recommend reading any of several books that you can find about this ship. Von Luckner himself became quite a celebrity for his exciting exploits.
