Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$18

Typical high quality Frog kit with fine panel lines and no rivet detail so it builds up to a realistic model. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Hornets took part in a major incident in US/UK/PRC relations on July 23, 1954, when PLAAF La-7s (or -11s) shot down Cathay Pacific DC-4 VR-HEU near Hong Kong. Hornets from 80 Squadron Kai Tak (not depicted in the Frog kit decals) are scrambled and the first to locate the survivors. Two days later, 7th Fleet AD-1s splash two Lavochkins in the same area.

Revell Custom Car Bumpers And Grilles, 1/25, C1154

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$24

Rare. This is the narrow box version of the early 1960s 'Custom Car Parts' Bumpers and Grills. All parts are chrome plated and the instructions are on the reverse of the card. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts. The other issue was the same part number and title but packed in a card with a clear plastic blister-pack. Although these are not dated, I believe the blister-pack/card version to be the later issue.

Lincoln Vickers Viscount BEA British European Airways, 1/121, 103

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$46

From the 1950s with great box art. Nice early kit that is close to 1/144 scale. Features rotating props, 'gear up' configuration and excellent, full color decals. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still sealed in the factory bag and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete, including instructions and excellent decals. Lincoln was based in Hong Kong. Plastic kits were not the primary business, but they established quite a line of them before discontinuing production in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Many molds moved to Kader, also in Hong Kong, who reissued the line. Many molds eventually found their way to the USA either through ATP (who purchased the excess kit stock when Kader sold out) or IM.

Monogram Mustang P-51B - Ding Hao - Blue Box Issue, 1/48, 6806-0100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Still factory sealed and in investment-grade 'Mint' condition. Mattel Logo and SkyStick issue dated 1968; please note this is the last Monogram Blue-Box issue of this model to have a price suffix on the part number. Well molded and detailed model for that time featuring detailed cockpit and gear wells and choice of two canopies. The decals are for Col. Howard, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was an AVG pilot and became the first US pilot to become an ace in both the Pacific and European theaters. His aircraft 'Ding Hao' means 'OK!' in Chinese.

Novo Techna Soviet Type L Series II Submarine, 1/400, K4003

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$10

Ex-Soviet Union kit that is very well molded for that time with very fine detail and hull drain holes. Full hull model measures 7.5 inches long when assembled and includes display stand and decals. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags, which is attached to cardstock that is folded in two. At times the factory workers had to get pretty creative because of a shortage of staples. Beyond staples, I have seen the bag of parts attached with a clothing snap, a rivet or even sewn on with thread!

Revell Whip-Fly F-89D Scorpion, 1/80, H153-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$79

1960 issue of the rare "Whip Fly" series. Hardbox artwork for this series was the 'action' photos by Tom Kelly. Whip-Fly kits contain the aircraft model with nose ballast, a metal control ring, 12 feet of control line and a control handle- and in this case, colored plastic streamers. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The back of the instructions gives the user important tips about whip flying and a paragraph on calculating 'How Fast Will It Go?' The long side of the box shows the complete Whip-Fly series with the action box art. Included are H151 F9F-8 Cougar, H152 F-84F, H153 F-89D Scorpion, H154 F8U-1 Crusader, H155 F-39 Airacobra and H156 F-101A Voodoo. Although not listed yet, there was also a Whip-Fly Canberra, F-106 and Yak-25 Flashlight. The Whip-Fly series seemed like a good idea...at first. Revell quickly realized that spinning heavily-ballasted, sharp objects at dizzying speeds in or outside the home near groups of children was not the best idea. The series was quickly discontinued.

Orange Crush-Revell 1907 Renault Limousine, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$79

Very rare kit with a fascinating history. Around 1958/59, Orange Crush of Mexico offered a promotion. They offered free, colorful, plastic model cars if you collected correctly-marked Orange Crush bottle caps. The models are 1/32 scale Revell Highway Pioneer series - although there is no mention of Revell or Lodela anywhere on the box. Orange Crush had the boxes and even the instructions specially made for them with no mention of a manufacturer. They were never given numbers. The boxes were very thin and fragile cardboard. This has contributed to wear and you must be very cautious with them. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and the instructions are sealed in the bag as well. You could redeem your caps two ways - at the Orange Crush truck and at a Modelandia Hobby House. The box sides show the 18 cars in the series. Orange Crush also released two full-color booklets and a complete paint set for the cars. A colorful cardboard box held 7 colors of paint in glass bottles, complete with 'Orange Crush' screw-on caps! The entire promotion was done in coordination with Modelandia Hobby House which had up to 19 stores. Modelandia's name appears on each of the boxes and the paint as well. Robina S.A. was the bottler or distributor of Orange Crush in Mexico at that time. The box side lists the other 18 kits with small color pictures of each and shows three sizes of OC - Family Size (Familiar), Grand (Grande) and Normal. You could also obtain models with Titan bottle caps. Titan was also bottled by Robina and came in large (Titan) and smaller (Titancito) sizes and apparently more than one flavor. We do not know how Orange Crush had access to the plastic kits or who sealed the internal bags with the Crush instructions inside them. We can assume that it may have been Lodela, since they would have had access to the Revell molds. It is not know for how long the promotion lasted, but Orange Crush was one of the most dominant soft drinks in Mexico at that time. Here is one clue: some boxes claim that Modelandia had 13 locations; other boxes, which obviously came later on, claim 19 locations. This may indicate that this promotion went on for a significant amount of time.
