Berkeley Mini Hogan 34 by Dennie Davis- Flying Model Airplane Kit, 17-1

Dennie Davis' design with the 'perfect flight record. His Hogan designs won International Class A, C and D, the All-Western Championship and many more. Features precision die-cut parts, complete hardware, silkspan covering, sheet balsa wing covering, preshaped trailing and leading edges and more. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Well detailed and molded kit. Features very fine raised panel lines, full interior crew stations including cockpit, forward gunner, rear upper gunner and retractable lower gunners 'dust bin', optional position crew boarding hatch and ladder, crew of 4, rotating propeller and wheels and decals for the two aircraft listed. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including decals and instructions. The Ju-86 started life as a unique diesel powered bomber and civil transport. However, problems with the diesel engines prompted Junkers to fit the airplane with more reliable BMW 132 F and N radial engines, which is what this kit represents.

Rare first issue. Hardbox is dated 1962 and the parts are molded in the correct gray, silver and yellow. This kit was modified from the Atlas Ballistic Missile molds. It is single greatest model kit for the Mercury Atlas program. Contains highly detailed Atlas/Mercury, launching pad, ramp, tractor transports, nitrogen tank and trailer. Never started. Rare kit from the 1950s. One-piece flip top box with early 29 cent price extension. Glossy white and clear plastic. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. NOTE: the instructions are torn, and are missing an approximately 1 x 2 inch section. Comet originally began model production in 1929 with a line of balsa flying models. In the mid-1950s Comet made a beautiful line of small and medium scale aircraft and missile models with colorful boxes. The early issues were in one-piece 'flip-top' boxes, and the later issues and releases were in standard two-piece 'hardboxes' with a lithograph slick glued to the top box. In 1963 Comet sold the plastic kit molds to Aurora, who reissued some but not all of the kits.
